Our Mission is
simple - "Advocate for a business
environment in which our members can prosper". To accomplish this end, the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to: economic diversification; developing outstanding quality of life for its community; providing adequate chamber resources; proactive government relations and life-long learning for its members.
The Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce is a business and professional organization with more than 95 years of service to the community. It was founded in 1902 by a group of community members who pooled their resources in order to foster an economic climate conducive to creating and retaining jobs.
The Chamber is a private, not-for-profit, action-oriented organization of more than
600 businesses located primarily in Itasca County. The Chamber is governed by a 19-member Board of Directors, which is elected by the membership. The Board meets monthly and is responsible for policy direction and programming. The Chamber is not a governmental body, however, Chamber officials work closely with elected officials at all levels.
To keep members and the community updated on current information, the Chamber produces a monthly newsletter
"The Chamber
Network," and weekly radio spots called "Chamber Update." An Annual Report and a Program of Action are printed annually, as well as the Grand Rapids Area Travel Planner. The Chamber also offers a luncheon with guest speakers conducted the first Monday of every month except July.
